“pii en kwo : water is life” Photo Exhibit in Toronto

This exhibit is on display at the Bay Adelaide Centre for *one week only*.
The Concourse is accessible from 6:30 am to 2:00 am daily. From street level, take the escalator in the Bay Adelaide Centre down to the lower level, then head to your left.

About the Photos
In February 2010, I accompanied Ryan’s Well Foundation representatives on their monitoring trip to Uganda to document the work they do throughout the country. We visited a number of schools and communities where water, sanitation and hygiene education (WASH) programs had been recently implemented by Ryan’s Well and their local partners.

The photos in this exhibit showcase the incredible impact Ryan’s Well projects have on the local people – not only in bringing life-giving water and sanitation, but in helping to build a foundation for economic development, improved health and well-being, and fostering a sense of empowerment and hope for a better future.

Framed prints are available for sale. A portion of each sale will be donated to the Ryan’s Well Foundation.

caelyn’s family photos

The other weekend was Caelyn’s first communion and since the family would be all dressed up, her Mom thought it would be a good opportunity for some family photos!

new york’s veggie pride parade

Here are some photos from the New York Veggie Pride Parade on May 15. It was the day after the Farm Sanctuary 25th Anniversary Gala and we were a bit tired from the festivities, but we were there showing our veggie pride!

On another note, I’m experimenting with different ways of displaying photos on my blog and would love for you to leave a comment with your feedback; do you prefer the slideshow like the in Farm Sanctuary’s 25th Anniversary Gala post, individual photos like in the Kavule Parent’s School for the Deaf post, or one big long photo like in this post?

farm sanctuary’s 25th anniversary gala

Earlier this month, I had a fantastic time shooting the Farm Sanctuary 25th Anniversary Gala at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Farm Sanctuary is one of my most favourite organisations and I was so thrilled to be back shooting another gala for them.

Among those in attendance were James Costa and John Archibald, Dorr Begnal and John Talbot, Jesse Eisenberg, Corey Feldman, Rory Freedman, Kathy Freston, Bonnie-Jill Laflin, Carol Leifer, Nellie McKay, Wendie Malick, Eric Roberts, Ally Sheedy, Loretta Swit, Jane Velez-Mitchell, Fred Willard, National Shelter Director extraordinaire, Susie Coston and of course, President and Co-Founder of Farm Sanctuary, Gene Baur.

Danielle Konya’s company, Vegan Treats, provided single-serving cakes and was accompanied by a camera crew from Animal Planet for the forthcoming series, Sweet Avenger.

The celebration also marks the launch of the Just Eats Tour; Gene will be travelling from New York City to Orland California exploring vegan America. He’s travelling in the very VW van from which he sold veggie dogs at Grateful Dead concerts and was used to rescue Hilda the sheep, the first animal Gene rescued from the stockyards.

Congratulations to Farm Sanctuary on 25 years of tireless work rescuing and advocating for farm animals and promoting a kinder, more compassionate world through vegan living. Here’s to many more years and many more lives saved!

photos on display at Kemptville’s Dandelion Festival

Dandelion Festival

If you happen to be in the Kemptville, ON area this weekend, be sure to check out the Dandelion Festival celebrating local art, music and culture. Stop in at the Old Fire Hall and visit the Ryan’s Well Foundation booth to see a display of some of my photos of their projects in Uganda.

Looks like it will be a great festival filled with lots of art, music and fun for the kids!

art auction supporting free the children

On Tuesday, May 17, White Oaks Secondary School in Oakville is holding their 2nd Annual Art Auction and Pasta Dinner organised by the school’s Free the Children Committee.

To date the committee has raised enough money to have a school built in the village of Emori Joi, Kenya. The money raised from this year’s fundraiser will continue to support Free the Children‘s efforts in Kenya.

I donated this print to their art auction. I hope it does well for them and that the whole event is a huge success!

jenny + baby

I was really excited when my long-time friend, Jenny, approached me to shoot a maternity session for her; not just because she’s beautiful and really easy to photograph, but because she wanted “to do more artsy stuff”. We had lots of fun experimenting with different ideas and had great light to play with!

I love sharing in people’s special moments and documenting different stages in their lives. I photographed Jenny and her husband, Gerard, when their first son was almost one, before and after the arrival of their second son, and now these photos awaiting the arrival of their third child. I also photographed Jenny’s uncle’s wedding and her sister’s wedding! We we’re hoping I’d be able to document the birth of the latest addition to their family, but unfortunately little Evie arrived when I was in Ottawa for my exhibit reception. :(  But that’s okay; I’m sure there will be more special moments to come…
