simulation expedition

Last month I photographed a really interesting event for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. As part of their Simulation Summit conference, they ran a Simulation Expedition designed to expose participants to different forms of simulation for enhancing clinical teaching and learning.

The day consisted of medical moulage simulations, team-based scenario simulations, as well as tours of the simulation centres at three downtown hospitals. The standardised patients and conference participants made the emergency scenarios so realistic, I had goosebumps!

tricia & fabio

Tricia and Fab couldn’t have planned a more beautiful wedding. The Boyd Conservation Area was such a perfect location for a sunny afternoon wedding with frisbees, footballs, bubbles and other outdoor activities for the kids…and some of the adults too!

I’m so happy for the two of you and wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!

detecting UXOs

Unexploded ordnances (UXOs) are explosive weapons that did not detonate when they were deployed. There are billions of kilos of UXOs worldwide that still pose a risk of potentially detonating, especially since many become unstable over time.

Decades after these munitions were used, CFB Borden has contracted the company Notra to remediate their military training ranges. Using electromagnetic and magnetic detectors, Notra collects geophysical data to map the locations of anomalies indicative of potential UXOs.  Anomalous targets identified as UXOs are then carefully dug up and disposed of.

The following photos are from a day spent with Notra staff documenting their data collection process in their proving ground (equipment calibration area), which means the munitions that were detected were not live; at least not in this area.

local democracy week

Last week I had the opportunity to shoot for Free the Children again; this time it was for an event marking the end of Local Democracy Week which “aims to help young people understand they have the power to change their communities through being active participants in the democratic process.”  The day started at Queen’s Park with opening remarks and speeches followed by tours of the Legislative Assembly and Political Speed Dating sessions designed to generate excitement about the political process and allow students to discuss issues of concern to them.

After lunch, the students were transported to City Hall where they were welcomed by Mayor David Miller, learned about the role of local government and participated in interactive workshops facilitated by the Me to We team.

images cd release concert

My friend, Rob MacDonald, is a guitar virtuoso.  I had the priviledge of shooting the dress rehearsal for his IMAGES cd release concert at Gallery 345  last weekend.  The concert also included performances with guitarist Tracy Anne Smith and the Madawaska String Quartet

It was such a pleasure to shoot their rehearsal, but an even greater pleasure to hear the concert!

free the children honoured guests event

Last weekend, I had the great opportunity to shoot an honoured guests event for Free the Children.  The room was full of excitement on the eve of We Day, the annual celebration of the power of young people to change the lives of others.  Guests included Craig and Marc Kielburger, Michael “Pinball” Clemons, W. Brett Wilson, and several Degrassi cast members.  It was a such an inspiring evening!
